How are my benefits funded?

The JFBT is funded largely through employer contributions. JFBT also receives some contributions from members (for example from casual employees and employees on leave) and from investment returns on reserve funds. Employer contributions are a fixed percentage of payroll established through collective bargaining between health employers and health care unions. These sources of revenue are used to cover the cost of ongoing benefit claims and to ensure that reserves are in place to cover future claims, including long term disability.
